Inter Milan’s summer dealings with Liverpool could yet prove to have been the beginning of a broader relationship between the clubs.

Curtis Jones left Anfield for the San Siro after a lengthy negotiation, ending a 16-year association with Liverpool. Now, according to Italian outlet L’Interista , Inter are considering another approach to Merseyside, with Federico Chiesa emerging as a potential January target.

This one would carry a very different significance for Liverpool.

L’Interista report that Inter remain interested in adding another attacking option, specifically someone capable of operating in wide areas and beating defenders in one-on-one situations.

Chiesa was discussed during the summer and could return to Inter’s thinking if space is created within Cristian Chivu’s squad in January.

At 28, Chiesa has reached the stage of his career where another season spent watching football rather than playing it carries genuine consequences. His Liverpool career has never gathered sufficient momentum, and this season has provided little encouragement that circumstances are about to change.

Chiesa is yet to play a single minute for Liverpool this campaign after fitness problems ruled him out of pre-season.

That absence has also affected his international prospects. Having been part of Italy’s European Championship winning side, Chiesa was omitted from the latest Azzurri squad.
