Liverpool’s recruitment plans may increasingly involve players familiar to Andoni Iraola, but Bournemouth appear determined to ensure familiarity does not become opportunity.

This is Bournemouth behaving like a club increasingly comfortable with its own importance. Players once considered attainable when one of England’s traditional powers arrived are now being protected, valued aggressively and retained according to Bournemouth’s timetable.

For Liverpool, two names deserve particular attention, Alex Scott and Rayan.

Scott’s development has accelerated considerably, culminating in his senior England debut during the 2-0 Nations League victory over Czechia.

His contractual situation inevitably makes him interesting. Scott enters the final 18 months of his Bournemouth deal in January, while Chelsea have already seen a £64 million offer rejected.

Liverpool’s interest carries another dimension because of Iraola’s relationship with his former player. With Curtis Jones having left for Inter Milan, Liverpool have reason to examine midfield options capable of bringing energy, technical quality and Premier League experience.
