The full panel of Brazil’s Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) voted by a majority to uphold Kaio Jorge’s punishment for the incident involving Atlético-MG’s Ruan Tressoldi in the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals. The striker received a one-match suspension, which was converted into a warning, and remains eligible to play.

The incident occurred in the first half of the derby on August 25. After being undercut while airborne, the defender landed dangerously and was substituted following the concussion protocol.

The defense lawyer argued that this type of challenge is common in football and that the ruling should not be based on how the incident looked. In his view, the challenge was reckless and warranted only a yellow card.

At the initial hearing, the 5th Disciplinary Commission had already imposed the minimum penalty, converting it into a warning. The prosecution appealed, but the full panel upheld the decision.

Kaio Jorge was charged under Article 254 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), which covers violent play and carries a suspension of one to six matches.
