Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are all being linked with Caught Offside source claims over a possible move for Tyrick Mitchell, and this is the sort of story that makes sense the longer you look at it. No hype, no fantasy fee, no developmental project dressed up as a finished player. Just a proven Premier League full-back with contract uncertainty and a market opening up around him.

Mitchell is now in the final year of his Crystal Palace deal and, crucially, there is still no renewal in place. That changes the conversation immediately. Palace can talk about his importance, and they would be right to do so, but once a player gets this close to the end of a contract, leverage begins to shift.

At 27, Mitchell is well past the stage of being described as potential. He has been around Palace’s first team since 2020, has made 250 appearances and contributed 26 goals. For a full-back, that is solid output. More importantly, he knows the league, understands defensive work, and has shown he can handle responsibility in a side that often has to suffer without the ball.

His recent brace against Fulham only adds visibility, but clubs will not be judging him off one match. They will be looking at consistency, durability and whether he can step into a bigger squad without drama. In that respect, he looks like a sensible option.

For United, this feels particularly logical. Luke Shaw’s fitness record remains an issue, and if Patrick Dorgu is being used higher up the pitch by Michael Carrick, then the need for proper depth at left-back is obvious. Mitchell would not arrive as a marquee name, but that is precisely why the move has merit.

Liverpool and Chelsea have reasons to look as well. Liverpool want depth on the left side, while Chelsea are searching for cost-effective defensive additions. Still, from a United perspective, this is not about winning a headline race. It is about fixing a squad problem.

Palace are said to want £20-25 million for Mitchell. In this market, that is manageable. Given the contract situation, buying clubs will believe they can negotiate lower, especially with the risk of losing him for nothing next summer hanging over Palace.

That is why this one bears watching. Tyrick Mitchell may not be glamorous, but smart recruitment rarely is.
