Manchester United remain active in their assessment of the left-back market, with Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys still on the radar as the recruitment team weighs up solutions in a problem position. According to TeamTalk , the 21-year-old Belgian is one of four names under consideration as United continue planning for greater depth and reliability on the left side.

Seys has been described as “one of the more closely watched left-backs in European football”, with United part of a wider group of clubs tracking his development. The report states that the Old Trafford hierarchy have “made enquiries about his availability from Club Brugge”, while the search goes on for “longer-term cover and competition for Luke Shaw”.

This is not a fleeting check-in. “Interest has not faded with the window,” and scouts were reportedly present again in late September. Internally, United are understood to rate Seys highly as “a future option”, which suggests the interest is grounded in long-term planning rather than a rushed market opportunity.

No formal bid has been made, and that matters. For now, the situation is exactly as outlined, “a matter of scouting and monitoring rather than negotiations”, with Seys staying put at the Jan Breydelstadion. That said, United’s due diligence appears thorough, especially with other options also being reviewed.

Club Brugge are not under pressure to sell. Seys has a contract until 2029, he is now a regular starter, and he already brings Champions League exposure alongside involvement in Belgium’s World Cup squad. TeamTalk reports that Brugge would want “around €35million (£30m)” to even consider a deal, after previously showing no appetite to part with him.

That valuation feels significant but not prohibitive in the current market for young, high-upside full-backs. The key line may be that Brugge are “not banking on selling Seys but money talks”. For a player of his age, profile and trajectory, that price point will inevitably keep major clubs attentive.

United’s shortlist does not begin and end with Seys. He “joins the list of options with Adrien Truffert, Tyrick Mitchell and, less likely, Lewis Hall.” That wording is instructive. It points to a live process, with United mapping multiple routes depending on cost, availability and how the wider market moves.

Any eventual move appears “dependent on other dominoes falling”, which is often how this sort of position-specific recruitment unfolds. Left-backs are in demand and clubs know it. United’s task is to decide whether Seys represents value now, or whether one of the alternative targets offers a cleaner deal.
