Liverpool’s recruitment team are already looking ahead, and one defensive name has re-emerged in the conversation. According to TuttoMercato, Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu is again among the players being considered as the club assess right-sided defensive options.

This is not a new link. Kalulu was discussed in previous windows and remains attractive for reasons that are fairly clear across the market. He is versatile, comfortable at right-back and centre-back, and has the athletic profile that many top clubs value highly. Liverpool have prioritised flexibility in recent recruitment, and that part of the report is believable.

The source states, “Jeremie Frimpong was then brought in, but the consensus in the Melwood offices is that a reinforcement is needed in the position,” before adding, “This is why Juventus’ Pierre Kalulu is among the Reds’ shortlisted names . Kalulu is popular for his versatility and technical and athletic qualities, and is among the top names on Liverpool’s radar.” It also notes, “He’s not the only one: Roma’s Brazilian Wesley , who has been closely monitored in the Giallorossi’s recent league outings, is also in the mix.”

Kalulu makes sense on paper because Liverpool, under Andoni Iraola, are expected to favour defenders who can operate in multiple roles without a drop in intensity. That has become increasingly important as the demands on full-backs continue to change. Clubs are searching for players who can defend wide spaces, recover quickly and still contribute in possession.

Juventus are understood to want clarity on Kalulu’s future, and that naturally draws attention from elsewhere. Whenever an adaptable defender with top-level experience becomes available, Liverpool are likely to be mentioned. The question is not only whether there is admiration, but whether it develops into something more concrete.

From a Liverpool perspective, the appeal may come down to value as much as profile. The original article frames Kalulu as a stronger option than Ronald Araujo, largely because of age, availability and the likely cost attached to any permanent move. That argument has merit.

Araujo’s quality is not in doubt, but transfer planning is rarely about ability alone. Durability, tactical fit and total outlay all shape final decisions. If Liverpool believe Kalulu can cover similar positions, stay available more consistently and arrive for a lower fee, he becomes a very serious candidate.

That does not mean a move is close. At this stage, it reads more like ongoing market work than an advanced negotiation. Liverpool regularly monitor several players in the same role before narrowing the field, and that appears to be the case here.
