Alejandro Garnacho’s difficult start at Aston Villa has raised questions over his future, with Spanish clubs monitoring it. The Madrid-born Argentine joined from Chelsea on a season-long loan in July, with a £43m obligation to buy. Chelsea confirmed that the deal becomes permanent if agreed criteria are met.

Yet Garnacho has managed only 31 competitive minutes for Aston Villa, all from the bench, and he has struggled to earn Unai Emery’s trust. He then spent four straight matches as an unused substitute.

That lack of involvement has raised doubts. Former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Garnacho is still expected to complete a permanent move, but believes the player and his representatives are considering alternatives. Spain makes particular sense.

Garnacho was born in Madrid and spent his early development at Atlético Madrid before Manchester United signed him as a teenager. La Liga clubs have reportedly followed his situation, while his directness could suit a league giving wide players greater freedom.

For now, Villa have no reason to abandon it. Emery has stressed that Garnacho must learn his roles and work his way into a competitive attack. Emery has preferred players offering tactical reliability.

His response during the international break offered encouragement. Villa travelled to Seville for a friendly against Emery’s former club, and Garnacho scored while producing a stronger display. Reports said Villa used a mini pre-season to help him catch up physically and tactically.

“Alejandro Garnacho is going to have one eye on the future away from Aston Villa,” Brown told Football Insider.

“There have been doubts about that deal because he’s had a slow start to his time there; he’s not playing as often as he would’ve thought.
