Tottenham’s search for defensive authority could yet lead them back towards Kim Min-jae, with TeamTalk reporting that Bayern Munich are prepared to consider a sale if the conditions are right. The South Korea international remains under contract until 2028, yet his place in the pecking order has shifted and that has naturally alerted a number of clubs.

The central detail is clear. Bayern are not actively forcing him out, but there is now a realistic scenario in which movement becomes possible. As reported, Bayern are “open to selling the South Korean international if the right offer arrives”, a line that immediately sharpens attention around Tottenham, Aston Villa and several major Italian sides.

For Spurs, the timing is significant. A defender of this calibre, age and experience would usually command a much wider race, yet TeamTalk state that “a bid of £30million will be enough to secure Min-jae’s signature next summer”. In a market where proven centre-backs often cost far more, that figure stands out.

There is important context around Bayern’s thinking. Kim, now 29, has “slipped to third choice behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah under Vincent Kompany”. That reduced status does not mean an immediate departure is imminent, because “Nothing is advanced” and the player is “content to stay and comfortable with his current squad role, even if starts are limited.”

That said, clubs have not walked away. Tottenham, Aston Villa and AC Milan “all made contact over him in the summer without lodging a formal bid, and all three remain interested”. Juventus are also “among the sides monitoring his situation”, which points to a competitive market once Bayern’s direction becomes clearer.

There is also a scheduling element to this story. A winter move is possible in theory, but TeamTalk suggest “A January move is regarded as more unlikely, the more realistic window is next summer”. From Bayern’s perspective, that makes sense if they still want to preserve value while reshaping the defence.

For Tottenham, Kim Min-jae ticks several boxes. He brings top-level European experience, physical authority and a profile already tested in high-pressure environments. The report points to “Premier League-ready experience and a proven profile” and references his title-winning impact at Napoli. That background is precisely why Spurs are watching closely.

Villa’s interest adds another layer, especially given that Kim “turned down interest from Aston Villa and a tentative enquiry from Nottingham Forest” over the summer. Whether that changes next year may depend on role, European football and the clarity offered by Bayern.
