Liverpool have no plans to part with Florian Wirtz, despite fresh speculation in Germany suggesting Bayern Munich could revisit their long-standing interest in the attacking midfielder.

The 23-year-old arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2025 in one of the biggest deals in the club’s history, joining from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m. That move formed part of a major rebuild following Liverpool’s Premier League title success in 2024-25, with the club committing more than £400m on new signings.

Wirtz arrived with elite-level expectations after playing a central role in Leverkusen’s title-winning campaign. He was widely viewed as one of the most gifted creative players in Europe and Liverpool moved decisively to beat strong competition for his signature. Bayern Munich were among the clubs with a serious interest before he chose Merseyside.

Since then, his adaptation has drawn scrutiny. There have been glimpses of the quality that made him such a coveted target, but his overall impact has not yet matched the scale of the investment. That has fuelled outside noise over his role, his best position and whether Liverpool may eventually consider a change in direction.

For now, the position from Anfield is straightforward. Liverpool continue to view Wirtz as an important part of the squad and there is no intention to move him on in the near future. Internal belief remains that patience is required and that his highest level can still be unlocked in English football.

That confidence has been reinforced by some encouraging moments already this season, including an eye-catching display in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid. Performances like that are seen as evidence that Wirtz can still become a key figure under Andoni Iraola, who is now tasked with shaping Liverpool’s next phase following his appointment as head coach.

The tactical challenge is a familiar one. Wirtz is at his sharpest when given freedom between the lines, but Liverpool’s system needs balance, intensity and clarity out of possession. Finding the right structure around him will be central to whether this transfer fully delivers.

There is also an acceptance that elite imports often require time, particularly those changing leagues, tempo and tactical demands. Liverpool’s recruitment team backed Wirtz because of his long-term profile, not only for immediate return. That broader view has not changed.
