Niko Kovac is set to extend his stay at Borussia Dortmund by signing a contract that will keep him at the club until 2029, according to BILD . The 54-year-old’s current contract runs until 2027.

The report indicates that an agreement has already been reached, with only Kovac’s signature remaining. A few days ago, the Black and Yellows extended the contracts of the management trio Carsten Cramer, Lars Ricken and Thomas Treß . It was suggested that Kovac was waiting for Ricken’s contract extension to be finalised before signing his own.

Kovac was appointed Borussia Dortmund head coach in January 2025, replacing club legend Nuri Sahin. He took the side from 11th place to fourth and secured a Champions League place.

In his first full season, he guided Dortmund to second place in the Bundesliga despite disappointing results in the DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League. BVB have won every competitive game this season apart from the 2-1 Supercup defeat to Bayern Munich at the start of the campaign.
