Alexander Isak settled the game with the only goal of the afternoon, but the wider conversation quickly shifted to what Liverpool might have seen beyond the result. In a match short on fluency, Bournemouth still had individuals who stood out, and two names keep surfacing, Alex Scott and Rayan.

Scott looked like a player ready for the next level. He has energy, can receive under pressure and moves the ball quickly, which sounds basic until you realise how many midfielders struggle to do it consistently. He has already attracted major interest and that usually tells you the market sees what the eye sees.

Jamie Carragher’s view was direct: “I think he’s a wonderful player.” That is the cleanest summary. Scott suits teams that want midfielders to cover ground, connect phases and play at speed. Liverpool need more of that.

Rayan is a different case. He is more about incision, invention and moments in tight spaces. Liverpool’s attack still needs another left-footed option who can start wide, drift inside and create chaos between the lines. That profile has value, particularly in games where opponents sit deep and ask you to solve a packed block.

Carragher also flagged him up, saying: “I thought Rayan was fantastic last season as well. It will have been really good for him to get a goal in midweek because he probably hasn’t been himself at the start of the season. There are some fantastic players here at Bournemouth.”

The key point is simple. Liverpool do not need more bodies. They need players who raise the technical ceiling and fit the coach’s demands. Scott and Rayan tick different boxes, which is why the links make sense.

The timing matters too. Liverpool’s squad depth remains a live issue. Competing on multiple fronts exposes weak points very quickly, and this group still looks short in certain areas. One win at Bournemouth does not change that.
