Christian Eriksen has left Wolfsburg by mutual agreement after a difficult few months, the club have confirmed .

The 34-year-old midfielder signed a two-year deal when he first joined the club in the summer of 2025.

His contract was due to run until next summer, but both parties agreed to terminate the deal because Eriksen wanted to return to Denmark to be closer to his family.

Eriksen has not played since he collapsed during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine on June 7.

The midfielder went down clutching his chest in the 65th minute, and the match at Odense Isstadion was ultimately abandoned.

Eriksen’s cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) delivered a shock during the incident, but he was conscious enough to walk to an ambulance before being taken to hospital for further checks.

The incident brought back memories of the cardiac arrest he suffered during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021.

Eriksen was later fitted with an ICD to help control dangerous heart rhythms before returning to professional football.
