The transfer window is closed. But Santos have once again been barred from registering new players.

A FIFA transfer ban came into effect this Thursday (8) over a debt owed to José Francisco Belman Gonzales, who was part of Pedro Caixinha’s coaching staff.

Peixe were unable to reach an agreement to pay the compensation owed to Caixinha and his staff following their dismissal in April last year.

The club owe the goalkeeping coach €200,000 (R$1.1 million), plus 5% annual interest accruing from April last year.

The transfer ban will be lifted if they pay that amount in full upfront.

Peixe are likely to face further sanctions soon, as Caixinha and assistants José Prata and Pedro Malta have also won legal cases against the club.

The total amount owed to the four is R$15 million.
