Liverpool’s interest in Alex Scott is gathering real momentum, with TeamTalk reporting that the club see Andoni Iraola as a potentially decisive factor in any move for the Bournemouth midfielder.

There is a clear sense that Liverpool’s admiration is serious. Scott has been on the club’s radar for some time, and the latest developments suggest Anfield decision-makers believe the new head coach may be able to offer an edge that few rivals can match. According to the report, Liverpool are “increasingly buoyant” about their chances, with Iraola’s existing connection to the player central to that thinking.

This is a significant detail in a market where margins are often fine. Scott is already one of the most closely watched midfielders in the Premier League, and once a player reaches that level of demand, personal relationships, trust and clarity of role can matter almost as much as money.

The report outlines a recruitment approach that remains disciplined. Liverpool “will only move for a player if they believe he possesses the quality to make a genuine difference, rather than simply adding another body to the squad”. That line offers useful insight into how Scott is being viewed internally.

Following Curtis Jones’ summer move to Inter Milan, Liverpool were not actively seeking a straightforward replacement, placing confidence instead in Trey Nyoni’s development. That makes this pursuit more revealing. If Scott is under genuine consideration, it is because he is seen as an upgrade option with long-term value, not a squad-filling exercise.

TEAMtalk add, “Scott fits that profile.” It is easy to see why. At 23, he combines Premier League experience with further room for growth, and his stock has risen sharply after making his England debut. He is now firmly in the bracket of players who can command elite-level attention and pricing.

This is where the story becomes particularly interesting. Iraola knows Scott well from their time together at Bournemouth and is understood to have played a major role in the midfielder’s progress. The article states that Scott is “a player Iraola knows well and trusts”, while “Scott himself has made clear the impact the Spanish coach has had on transforming his game over recent years”.

That matters. Managers and head coaches often arrive with preferred profiles, and in this case Liverpool are believed to have been told early that Scott was a player Iraola wanted to work with again. The report says, “during his initial discussions with Liverpool, Iraola identified Scott as a player he would like to work with again.”
