Everton have no plans to give up on their young left-back, Adam Aznou, despite his difficult start to life on loan at Málaga, according to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke .

The Toffees remain hopeful that the 20-year-old can establish himself as a first-team option when he returns to Merseyside, with their shortage of defensive cover adding urgency to his development.

Adam Aznou joined Everton from Bayern Munich in 2025 with considerable potential, but he struggled to earn regular opportunities under David Moyes last season.

The Morocco international made just one senior competitive appearance for the Toffees, leaving the club keen to secure regular minutes elsewhere rather than allow him to remain on the bench.

However, Vitaliy Mykolenko’s injury has exposed Everton ’s lack of recognised left-back cover, prompting regret over the decision to loan Aznou out. The youngster endured a difficult beginning at Málaga before making his first appearance as a second-half substitute in their 1-1 draw with Espanyol last week.

Everton still believe a sustained spell in Spain can help him develop the experience and match sharpness required for Premier League football. Nevertheless, the club need to see tangible progress rather than rely on his reputation alone.

From Moyes’s perspective, sending Aznou on loan made sense in principle. The timing, however, has left Everton short in a crucial position.
