It has been almost three months since David Alaba left Real Madrid. The club opted against giving him a new contract, and while this was not a surprising decision due to his regular injury problems, it is puzzling that he has remained a free agent until this day.

Alaba has been linked to various clubs since leaving the Bernabeu, including AC Milan and Inter Miami . He’d not made a decision on where he wanted to continue his career, but now, he has chosen the first move he wants to make post-Real Madrid – and it’s in Italy.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Alaba has reached a verbal agreement with Serie A side Udinese. Both parties are happy with the terms on offer, and they will now proceed with the hope that everything can be finalised in the coming days.

Alaba will arrive in Udine soon to complete the deal, with the likelihood being there will not be any delays due to him not being named in Austria’s squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. All being well, he should be able to return to action in the Serie A following the international break, although he will need time to get up to speed, given that his last appearance came in the 2026 World Cup.

Alaba will always be fondly remembered for his time at Real Madrid. He helped the club win two Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey, and before he suffered an ACL tear in December 2023, he was a regular starter for Los Blancos, meaning he contributed effectively to be club’s success. Thus, it’s likely that his former employers will keep on eye on his progress in Italy, with the hope that he can return to his best level.
