FC Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen is sidelined after yet another injury setback.

Just when it appeared that the defender had finally put his fitness problems behind him and was beginning to establish some continuity in the team, he picked up another injury.

The former Chelsea star sustained it during Barça’s most recent match against Sevilla, where he started but had to come off.

The Danish international has endured a difficult spell, but Barcelona hold him in high regard and tied him down to a new contract in the summer.

Now, according to MARCA , the Catalans are planning an official event to celebrate his contract renewal.

The ceremony has been pending since the summer, and his latest setback has only strengthened the club’s desire to mark his continued commitment to the team.

Christensen, 30, extended his contract on 1 July . His previous deal was due to expire on 30 June, but he signed a further two-year extension that will keep him at Barcelona until 2028.
